History of Aleppo soap:
To satiate this curiosity, we'd like to go back with you in time; this unparalleled soap comes originally from the old city of Aleppo, the main city in Syria. Historically, Aleppo was the main trade center, thanks to its location on one side of one of the oldest trade ways Silk Road.
It said that Aleppo is to be among the earliest soap producers. The first time Aleppo soaps were brought to Europe was in the 11t h century A.D.
Myths abound that Cleopatra (queen of Egypt) and Zenobia (queen of Syria) were Aleppo soap lovers before.
Whatever the truth, everyone knows that Aleppo soap has existed for centuries and is still loved and desired today for its incredible natural benefits. By preserving the method of manufacture and its original ingredients.
Here we want to advise you, as usual, before buying products on top of it written ALEPPO SOAP, be attentive to check the product ingredients of the Aleppo soap you purchase: if you find anything other than these four ingredients (olive oil, laurel oil, sodium hydroxide, and water), means it isn't the actual product.
Aleppo soap making:
The "hot process makes traditional Aleppo soap."
Aleppo's soap manufacturing process requires expert craftsmanship, a quality that Aleppo's legendary soap makers have in abundance.
In the beginning, the olive oil is brought into a large, inground vat along with water and lye, and they start boiling the mixture for three days along, while the oil interacts with lye and water to become a thick liquid soap known as the saponification process.
Then they add the key to Aleppo soap's powers (Laurel oil); after mixing it well, the mixture is taken from the container and poured over a large sheet of wax paper on the factory floor to cool and harden for one day as a flat mass, at this stage, it's a vibrant emerald-green color.
While the soap is cooling, workers walk over the mixture with planks of wood strapped to their feet to try to smooth out the surface and make it the same thickness.
After that, soap makers start to hand-cut the soap into cubes; these cubes of soap are stacked in staggered cylinder or pyramid tower shapes to permit maximum air exposure; once they have dried enough to be aged six months to a year, soap becomes ready for use.
As soap ages, it goes through several chemical changes. The free alkali content of soap breaks down upon slow reaction with air. Moisture in the soap is also reduced, making the soap more solid and long-lasting. Eventually, the outside of the soap turns a dull golden color, while the inside of the bar remains green; So, when you cut the Aleppo soap into two pieces, you will discover how wonderful this color looks.
As we've all seen, the soap-making process takes a long time, but after finishing, the result is a very thick, long-lasting bar of natural soap that is worth all these efforts, and it cannot be compared to money.
These soaps can be kept for years (under storage conditions of saving them in a dry place far away from sunlight and heat). Aleppo soap bars often look better with advancing age and turn a richer color; they will dry out slightly over time, but they remain perfect to use, and their skincare properties won't diminish.
